Move to Develop,
Enjoy and Learn

MovesMatter helps adults and children to overcome barriers in their lives with drug-free, holistic, movement-based therapies.

A Bit About Me

I am Lesley Ann Penistone, an educational neurodevelopmental movement therapist, based just outside Woking.

With two children in my family circle, one was born with anxiety and the other, who had difficulties in birth, was later diagnosed with dyspraxia.

It was hard to understand how two very clever children struggled. Help was very limited. I found Rhythmic Movement Training. It helped them both.

The movements took a few minutes each day and were so easy to do.  Within a few months, we noticed what an impact the therapy had made on their lives.

This was the start of my journey to becoming a registered therapist in RMTi.

My passion is to stop the overwhelm in your life, or yours and your child’s life.

I have been there, I empathise with you, and now can share what changed our lives with you.

Methods

    Rhythmic Movement Training International

RMTi is a movement based, primitive reflex integration programme that uses developmental movements, gentle isometric pressure and self-awareness to rebuild the foundations necessary to help overcome learning, sensory, emotional and behavioural challenges in children and adults.

    Musgutova Neurosensorimotor Reflex Integration

Challenging reflex patterns, identifying ones that need to integrate and creating a plan whereby the integrating process can begin, thereby helping the client to overcome learning, sensory, emotional and behavioural challenges.

    Exercise and Sound in Education

Aimed at children at nursery and in the early years at school.  A simple set of exercises and suggested music for listening designed as a guide to a child’s stage of neurophysiological development, allowing children to use the movements necessary for the body and brain to reach readiness for learning.
Vital for those who have missed early stages of development or have regressed for various reasons. Also providing an early indication of difficulties and helping prevent later learning and behaviour problems.

    Bal-A-Vis-X

    Balance-Auditory-Visual-Exercise
Bal-A-Vis-X is a carefully modulated system that can become increasingly complex or increasingly simplified/modified for those with severe special needs. Requiring thousands of midline crossings in three dimensions, exercises are steadily rhythmic with a pronounced auditory foundation. Each is executed at a pace that naturally results from proper physical techniques.

    Brain Gym

An educational movement-based programme which uses simple movements to integrate the whole brain, senses and body. Brain Gym can be used to improve a wide range of learning, attention and behaviour skills.

    Client Success Stories

    Helping with physical development

Lesley has been working with my 17-month-old daughter since March 2021 and has made a huge impact on her. Winnie is severely sight impaired and has brain abnormalities (thin corpus callosum and small left hippocampus), which means that she has been delayed in various areas including movement. She is now thriving and has made such huge leaps developmentally; she commando crawls, is nearly standing unaided, shows bundles of affection to those close to her, and importantly, she adores Lesley!

Helping with behaviour and performance at school

Lesley has been absolutely wonderful and has helped so much. Both of my boys like her very much and warmed to her straight away. I am seeing such positive changes within such a short space of time. The behaviour and the school performance improved so much. Also, the extra support from Lesley is very much appreciated.

    Helping to cope with ADHD

The difference in just one month!
We are no longer getting called into school. He’s no longer fidgeting and causing problems when standing in line. He seems to be part of life at school now, rather than just being on the edge. He’s getting involved and seems much happier.

    Boosting physical development

My child wouldn’t hold a pencil at home nor at school. We took him to see Lesley in reception. The other children were learning to write their names and Hugo hadn’t even coloured in or scribbled. 3 weeks into the movement plan, in class, he picked up his pencil and wrote Hugo. To us, the most important thing is that he now draws us, his family.

    Helping with disorders

My little girl was born with a chromosome disorder. We went to see Lesley. The difference after one month was crazy. She is now interacting with us. Before this, she was walking around not engaging in anything and so scared of everything. Now she plays with toys and plays ‘boo’ with us.
